Fractional CTO and embedded senior engineering
Technical direction and hands-on engineering for founders and small teams that need experienced product leadership.
01When technical leadership is the missing piece
You may need help turning product priorities into an engineering plan, choosing an architecture, evaluating a vendor, or deciding what to hire for. Sometimes you also need someone to implement the decision with your team.
Nicholas Howell works with founders and engineering teams through Full Stack Technologies. The role can focus on technical direction, hands-on delivery, or a clearly agreed combination.
02What we can work through
Architecture and data decisions, technical due diligence, delivery planning, hiring needs, engineering review practices, and the use of AI coding tools. Start with the decisions that are blocking progress instead of creating a new process for its own sake.
Embedded engineering fits into your existing repository, stack, and review process. Agree on decision ownership, availability, and the deliverables the engagement is meant to produce.
03Define the responsibility before the title
A useful engagement has a specific outcome: a technical plan the team can execute, a risky integration resolved, or a review process people can use. Ongoing responsibilities and implementation capacity should be explicit.
If you already have engineering leadership and need additional senior delivery capacity, the scope can focus on that work.
04Start with the decision in front of you
Describe the product, the team, and the technical decision or delivery problem you need help with. Include the next milestone so we can discuss the responsibility the role needs to carry.
