Codebase review and software rescue

Assess an existing application, prioritize its risks, and plan focused repairs before committing to a rewrite.

When an existing application needs attention

Repeated regressions, unclear data ownership, fragile deployments, or a feature backlog nobody can estimate are reasons to inspect the system before adding more work. The same applies when AI-generated code has accumulated faster than the team can review it.

The goal is to understand what is failing, what is worth keeping, and what must change for the next business milestone.

What a review should examine

Trace an important user journey from the interface to the stored data. Review access controls, input validation, integrations, error handling, and the way changes reach production. Identify where a failed request or deployment could lose data or leave the system inconsistent.

Findings should point to specific behavior and explain the consequence. Separate confirmed defects from concerns that need measurement or access to production evidence.

From findings to repairs

Agree on a short repair sequence ordered by user impact and risk. Stabilize the critical path, add checks for the failures being repaired, and make deployments recoverable. A targeted replacement may be appropriate where the existing design cannot meet the requirement.

Deliverables and access needs depend on the system. Agree on a review scope and written findings before scheduling a broader remediation effort.

Describe the failure you want solved

Share the symptoms, the affected workflow, the stack, and the next change you need to make. Keep credentials and sensitive customer data out of the initial message.
